Nick Ervinck GNI_RI_2014 - Design Studio Luc Derycke and Studio Nick Ervinck
GNI_RI_2014 (E/ NL)
KORTE INHOUD
The first monograph GNI_RI_2014 of Nick Ervinck offers a summary of the artist ‘s corpus up till now.
It was designed by Studio Luc Derycke with Studio Nick Ervinck. and published by MER. Paper Kunsthalle. Besides several detailed texts on the artworks, the book contains an interview with the artist by Christine Vuegen, and three critical essays by prof. Neil Spiller (University of Greenwich, UK), dr. Julia Kelly (University of Hull, UK) and em. prof. dr. Freddy Decreus (Universiteit Gent, B).
Fostering a cross-pollination between the digital and the physical, Nick Ervinck (°1981, Belgium) explores the boundaries between various media. The artist applies tools and techniques from New Media, in order to explore the aesthetic potential of sculpture, 3D prints, animation, installation, architecture and design. In his artwork Nick Ervinck always balances the narrow border between traditional sculpture and working with 3D. He has one foot firmly planted in the digital world. This means that he does not only use the computer as an instrument, but that the digital logic largely determines his artistic thought and method as well. At the same time, he always tries to respect the (art) historical heritage and history and archaeology are two of his main sources of inspiration.
With essays by Neil Spiller, Julia Kelly, Freddy Decreus and a conversation with the artist by Christine Vuegen
