?H. Hagendahl is known through his former publications as a recognised expert in his field of research. Now, in only 163 pages, he gives us a valuable survey, supplemented by notes recording recent research. The book consists of two main parts: (I) the pre-Constantinian period (including Lactantius); and (II) the post-Constantinian period. In the first part, the material is arranged according to authors; in the second part, the disposition follows thematic patterns (?). The book, which is written in very clear and precise German, is a survey of the important facts and trends in Christian Latin literature from Tertullian to Cassiodorus, with special regard to the influence of the Latin classics. Copious notes, a rich bibliography, and an index nominal et serum provide a starting point for further studies, even for problems of detail. (?)
