Built by Sir Edwin Lutyens in the early 1920's, the Queen Mary's doll house was a gift presented to her as a gesture of goodwill from the artists, craftsmen and authors most prominent at that time. The house became the focal point at the 1924 Wembley Empire Exhibition of which public interest at the time was focused upon the house as a royal treasure, and the way in which it showed in miniature a detailed picture of a domestic interior.
