G.A.S. Snyder (Snijder) began writing on the subject of Greek and roman art in the early 1920s. His concern with Aegean prehistoric art goes back to that time. A major article on Minoan art (...) was followed by his book 'Kretische Kunst' (1936), which was a landmark and is still important with a useful summary of the literature bearing on the subject until that date. S. Had much to say that was new and interesting; but is perhaps best known for his theory that the Bronze Age Cretans were eidetics, sharing with other primitive peoples a power of actuaaly projecting an image upon a surface and drawing it.
