Attention: This is a reedition and translation (by Eva Tas) of Twain's booklet 'King Leopold's Soliloquy', published in 1907 (other sources say 1905). The reedition in 1961 is to be considered as a strategic (political?) action against Belgium, after the news of the assassination of Patrice Lumumba. Met zijn aanklacht wilde Twain het monsterverbond tussen de Belgische koning en de Amerikaanse kapitalisten torpederen. Leopold II slaagde erin de originele editie van de markt te doen verdwijnen. Hoe? Wellicht door een georganiseerde opkoop van de gehele oplage.
