Embedded in Rotterdam, the characteristic Kralingen district is located to the east of the center. The rich history of Kralingen is determined by the pearl necklace of country estates that arose from 1600 around the Castle of Kralingen. Of the more than 40 country estates that existed, only five remain. This forgotten Arcadia strongly determines what 21st century Kralingen looks like.
