Aeneidos liber secundus. With a Commentary by R.G. Austin. - VERGIL, (VERGILIUS),

KORTE INHOUD

'This is the fourth in the Oxford series of commentaries on the 'Aeneid' to appear since the war, and it excees all its predecessors in amplitude, offering 267 pages of notes on 26 pages of text. It does not render the existing commentaries dispensable, since its emphasis is often on different things. But it will bring pleasure and profit to very many readers. (...) The notes, though naturally not exhaustive, are very full, and in the great majority of cases they compel agreement. Sometimes one may question, rarely contradict. (...) This is a copious and generous book, and it reflects on every page the editor's warm-heated affection for his author as well as the range of his learning and his sympathies.' (W.A. CAMPS in The Classical Review (New Series), 1965, pp.178-80).
